family: Adam Goldenwood -- Father// Elizabeth Goldenwood -- Mother// Dante Quickpaw -- Cousin
background: Night was never quite sure why magic was so necessary, and his mother, despite repeated efforts, could never make him understand how wonderful magic was. Eventually they gave in to Night's desire to do everything by hand, and Elizabeth put her wand away for him. They lived among muggles for a while, and they used magic when Night wasn't around and it was necessary. Night was perfectly happy without the use of magic, unlike his cousin, and he thought muggles were very cool.
Night had a lot of muggle friends, and when he started displaying signs of magic it was hard for him to keep them; despite his charm they were freaked out by the strange things he sometimes was able to make happen, and their parents demanded that Night stay away from their children. Night found his dislike of magic grow, and when he received his letter he decided he would go only so he could learn to control it, and then put it away unless emergency struck.
Night was in his seventh and final year when he received word that his neighborhood had been attacked by an unknown gang of magic users, and despite the ministries best efforts they were unable to find the culprits. Night had lost his home and his parents to the attack; he learned later that his mother had been trying to fight them off with magic, but she couldn't hold her own against so many and was one of the first killed, his father shortly after. His hatred of magic grew, but he now wanted only to become an auror so he would have the means to hunt down dark wizards that did things of this nature and put them in Azkaban. He studied hard and received high marks, and was glad that he'd always been a good student. He achieved the title of auror, and at the age of 20 he was able to start the hunt for the witches and wizards that had been responsible for his parents death. That remains his main goal, although he hasn't had much luck on that front.
Despite all that, he retained his easy going and charming personality. On occasion he faces the feelings that still reside in him over his parents' deaths, but he keeps them to himself. He refuses to burden anyone else with his problems. He grew really close to Dante while they were in school together, and they support each other when they can. Night helps Dante with his werewolf problems on occasion, when he is free and close by.

rp example:
Night stared at the remains of the house. There wasn't much left of it; when they had attacked, they had ruined just about everything. He knew there wasn't much point in staring at a house that was empty, except for memories that only hurt. He knew that he should be out doing something good instead of mourning what was past and gone, but he couldn't find it in himself to leave. He just wanted to reflect on their lives for a little while longer.
He'd read about the great Harry Potter more times than he could count; a boy that had been marked by the Dark Lord shortly after the deaths of his parents, and he had gone on to save the wizarding world. But he had been an infant, and a horcrux of the Dark Lord, no less. Night was just another auror, one more in a world with many, serving under a corrupt ministry. He didn't have any special powers, he couldn't speak to snakes, he couldn't fight a dark lord and survive the killing curse. He would die just like everyone else. Just like his parents.
He kicked at the burnt, concrete front steps of his childhood home. His mother would be so surprised to see him now. He had been planning on opening a store with a nice muggle girl somewhere, forgetting that his magic existed. He'd never planned on having kids. He shook his head. He wouldn't have kids now, not at the rate he was going. Oh, he could charm the girls into bed with him, but he couldn't let them close enough to understand him, and there was the problem. He wouldn't have a meaningful relationship.
He turned and walked away from the ruins. It was one of the few that hadn't been cleaned up yet, and soon they would be cleaning up the old burnt skeleton of all he had known as a child, and that would be it. He wished he could say good riddance, but he knew he would just miss the place. He could still picture what it had looked like, and what it would look like if he was able to walk in.
He strolled down the street, toward the taxi that waited for him. He could apparate, he supposed, but he didn't want to. Magic wasn't necessary for everything in his life. He got in the taxi and asked the driver to take him downtown, to a bar. He would forget today happened. After all, it wasn't like he wanted to remember it was the anniversary of his parents' deaths.
