So, yeah, it's been a while since the last book came out, well, now, even since the last film came out. I still sometimes see clashing opionions on the epilogue, on 19 Years Later and the additional information JRK has released through the family trees and in interviews.
I was just wondering what your thoughts were on the epilogue, or whether you think the Harry Potter books even needed one. And since we are at a post-Potter rp here I think we can all say that yeah, we do wonder how things continued.
Personally, I kinda just loved it. For several reasons.
For one, it gave the book a more hopeful ending, I guess? It was quite a dark one, after all, even if they won. So many characters we had come to love died. It was kind of melancholy. So 19 Years Later, I felt, was uplifting, I guess. Besides, it shows that things didn't just end. Lives continued, a new generation was born...
So, did I chuckle at some of the names? Sure. But then, come on, this is Harry Potter. And while there are plenty of characters with perfectly ordinary names, there are also just as many that sound strange to our ears.
I think the most problems people had as far as names go are with Albus Severus. But I think as far as the story and the Wizarding World goes, it makes perfectly sense. Harry named all his children after people who were really important in his life.
Lastly, I'm glad for the epilogue because I think it, in part, kept the fandom alive. And that's nice, I think, especially for younger fans and those that discover the books later on. Thinking back, I grew up with the Harry Potter books, practically in time with the main characters. So for anyone who reads them now, it's nice that they don't end in the past, but in the future or in the present.
It also served the continued fandom to have new characters to work with, characters whose stories have only been hinted at or which haven't been told yet.
For now, I don't hink JKR is going to pull an Anne Rice. At the moment I do believe that she won't write a continuation.
I'm just happy Harry Potter isn't gathering dust.
