cassandra ♦ joanne ♦ sinclair ♦ i feel so alone on the friday nights can you make it feel like home ♦ Cassie wasn’t entirely sure she continued breathing as they continued gazing at each other but if she wasn’t, obviously she’d had no need to. That was a silly thought, of course, but that is how she felt, not noticing much of anything that was going on and of any importance around them. Cassie hadn’t been in that state many times before. She could think of two, maybe three men who had managed to make her feel like this so soon.
“Yes,” Cassie agreed softly. “I consider myself very lucky that my ink ran out. And that you happened to be there in the possession of a quill.”
It was true. Cassie hadn’t expected any of this to happen tonight. It had been complete coincidence that she’d seen that Night had been sitting there with a stack of papers and she’d surmised he probably had something to write with on him as well. She was glad she’d asked him and no one else. And when he’d asked her to join him, well, she was glad she’d agreed.
Night broke the silence, maybe just in time. A few moments more and Cassie might have embarrassed herself. Or kissed him. Or probably both in the same instance. Cassie lightly squeezed Night’s hand.
“Sure, let’s continue,” she said, quite happy to walk anywhere with Night right then. But they’d still be in Hogsmeade which was quite magical, even without snow. They continued walking. In the distance Cassie could just make out the dark outlines of the fence that cordoned off the Shrieking Shack from the rest of Hogsmeade. The woods lay beyond. Now that it was public knowledge that the Shrieking Shack wasn’t really haunted, it really wasn’t what it used to be. It was just an old, dusty and crooked house. The kind the nursery rhyme would have been about. If one turned the other direction, though, one would see Hogwarts Castle, lit up my a few spots of light during the night. Still…
“Do you ever wonder what it’s like inside? The Shrieking Shack?” Cassie asked after a while, still comfortably holding Night’s hand. “I mean, I know it’s been disproven to be haunted but still, I can’t help but be curious. That’s in my nature, I guess.”

NIGHT.flynn.GOLDENWOOD If everyone cared and nobody cried, If everyone loved, and nobody lied. …Night was fairly sure that the smile on his face when she agreed with him was ridiculous, or at least on the verge of it, but he couldn't find it in him to care. Smiling wasn't a bad thing.
Night was glad to be walking again, instead of just standing staring at each other; he could have stood there for hours without worrying about the cold or the time, but he had his promise to Dante on the back of his mind tonight, and that brought about all kinds of other things he should keep in mind. Like not giving away all of his details.
Sometimes he wished he worked a regular desk job; the only enemies he'd have if he sat in an office all day would be the snack machine and a coworker that didn't quite like the way he did his organization, or something similar. He would live an average life and he would tell the whole world what he did, with no fear of the consequences except, possibly, embarrassment that his job wasn't necessarily the best of the bunch.
But if he was being honest... well, he knew that it wasn't that his job was as dangerous as he made it out to be. Mostly he just wanted an excuse to back away from people, a wall that he could put up between them with a solid, 'no trespassing' sign. He had gotten really good at keeping people out, and he wasn't sure he could let people in anymore, anyway.
Did he want to keep Cassie out? Did he want to push her away, even with the feelings that were beginning to make him wonder if he was crazy?
Night forced himself to put those thoughts away. They were necessary thoughts that he needed to have, yes, but not right now. Right now he should focus on what Cassandra was asking.
"That was one of the places we never ended up, surprisingly, while we were in school. I suppose we were a little afraid, but... well, yes. Were you wanting to check it out?" Night smiled, wondering if she was a little afraid despite her statement. It would certainly be an interesting thing to see, if nothing else. [/blockquote] …Then we’d see the day when nobody died. 371 .::Word Count::. If Everyone Cared by Nickleback .::Credited::. Bleh, thanksgiving hangover .::Notes::. cassandra ♦ joanne ♦ sinclair ♦ i feel so alone on the friday nights can you make it feel like home ♦ Cassie’s smile turned into a full-on grin when Night asked her whether she wanted to go into the Shrieking Shack. She and her friends had never attempted that during their time at Hogwarts. She supposed that it hadn’t really been the ‘cool thing’ to do anymore since it had become known that the old building wasn’t haunted after all. But still, Cassie had always been curious about it; about what it was like and whether there were any remains that indicated towards its history or maybe something completely new to discover.
“Yes,” Cassie said enthusiastically. “Let’s do that.” Almost taking the lead, Cassie tugged at Night’s hand a little to increase their pace but after a moment she noticed what she was doing and began laughing, embarrassed.
“I’m so sorry, Night,” Cassie said, still giggling at her own behaviour. “I’ve just always wanted to do this. You know, one of those things you’re not really supposed to do.” She winked conspiratorially.
Still holding Night’s hand, then, Cassie continued walking next to him at a more leisurely pace. They approached the fence that separated the Shrieking Shack from the rest of Hogsmeade and the woods and Cassie stopped and let go of Night’s hand. She tested the fence for its sturdiness and then climbed over it swinging one leg over after the other. Once on the other side she turned around to Night, holding out her hand to him.
“Are you going to join me?” she asked with a little mock-challenge in her voice.
The building loomed behind her and Cassie felt a small rush of excitement. All of a sudden she felt like she was back at school getting into trouble with her friends. Except that she might have never felt about them the way she thought she might be beginning to feel for Night.

NIGHT.flynn.GOLDENWOOD If everyone cared and nobody cried, If everyone loved, and nobody lied. …Night chuckled as Cassie pulled him along toward the Shrieking Shack. He didn't mind being pulled along, but she seemed embarrassed when she noticed what she had been doing.
He probably could have listened to her giggling for a good while, especially since it was contagious and he started to laugh as well. "No, it's completely alright." Her wink made him laugh a little more; this felt like school all over again, getting into mischief that was unwanted for most, but all the more exciting for them. He watched her climb over the fence, admiring the easy way she swung herself to the other side. At her challenge he swung himself over as well; he was in shape enough that it was no effort. Although climbing fences wasn't something that was part of his daily workout, it was simple enough. If he couldn't jump a fence with relative ease, he probably shouldn't be doing his job. "You thought I couldn't do it, didn't you?" He leaned over to lightly nudge her with an elbow, his smile stretching across his face. He'd forgotten how much fun it was to do this stuff, to break the rules with a friend - or maybe more than a friend - and do things just because it sounded like a good time. For a long time it'd been the job, or it'd been taking care of Dante, or it'd been drinking to forget and not to have fun. Having a social life had taken a back burner in his quest to find his parents murderers. He hadn't let himself rest since he'd been officially named an auror. And for good reason. But tonight... He looked at Cassandra, his face falling into something serious for only a moment. The smile on her face, the light in her eyes, the joy he felt from her... his mouth twitched up into a smile for a minute. Tonight he could take a break. It had been too long since he'd just been happy, without the taint of fear or pain to spoil it. He reached for her hand, wanting to feel more of the now unfamiliar happiness. It'd been much too long. "Let's find ourselves some adventure, shall we?" [/blockquote] …Then we’d see the day when nobody died. 370 .::Word Count::. If Everyone Cared by Nickleback .::Credited::. cassandra ♦ joanne ♦ sinclair ♦ i feel so alone on the friday nights can you make it feel like home ♦ Cassie laughed once Night had climbed the fence as well, looking good while he did so.
“What, no,” she said. “I knew you could do it, Night.” She gave him a winning smile. A chill wind came up and whipped through Cassie’s long her, making it flutter and then settle back down.
Cassie waited for Night a moment as he looked at her. There were short, tiny moments in which she didn’t quite know what to make of the looks he gave her or how to read them but those instances were always gone so fast she had no time to analyse them before they disappeared.
So Cassie happily wrapped her hand around Night’s again, enjoying their warm connection. She turned her head to look at him, smile at him, once in a while as they walked up to the Shrieking Shack. The building loomed in the darkness ahead and looked darker as they approached, but Cassie felt excited. She didn’t expect to find anything much inside the house besides rats and dust motes, but it would be nice. It would be away, somewhere no one else was, besides them. Cassie suddenly realised she’d be in there with Night, completely alone. She certainly didn’t mind.
Once they reached the shack, Cassie tried the door. It rattled well enough but it wouldn’t open. She had her wand set to it and the door unlocked within a second.
“Shall we go in?” Cassie asked, turning to Night and looking up at him, their breath visible in the cold Night air as Cassie sought out Night’s gaze.

NIGHT.flynn.GOLDENWOOD If everyone cared and nobody cried, If everyone loved, and nobody lied. …Night was happy to hold her hand as they made their way to the forbidden building. A thrill of excitement went through him as they neared it; it wasn't as if he was afraid of the building, not anymore, and it wasn't as if he were afraid of getting caught; he'd grown up enough that those things didn't bother him. What was exciting was doing something he'd never done with a woman that he'd only just met. A woman he felt he could really get to like, if he was allowed to get to know her better.
Night watched Cassie try the door only to find it locked. He was about to offer to open it for her; he'd gotten good at picking locks, but she took her wand out and unlocked it magically. Night frowned slightly; he knew that was the obvious response for any witch or wizard, but he would rather have opened it himself. But he wouldn't let it bother him, not tonight. Tonight he was just happy to be with this fine woman. It was only natural that she would want to use magic.
"Of course. After you." For a moment as she looked up at him, he felt a strong desire to lean down and kiss her, again. He smiled instead and gestured toward the door, giving her a slight bow. "My lady."[/blockquote] …Then we’d see the day when nobody died. 228 .::Word Count::. cassandra ♦ joanne ♦ sinclair ♦ i feel so alone on the friday nights can you make it feel like home ♦ After another endless moment of gazing into Night’s eyes, Cassandra finally turned and with a small grin, feeling almost giddy, pushed against the door of the Shrieking Shack. True to the building’s name, the door creaked, sounding loud and ear-piercing in the otherwise still night. Cassie made a face but did not let it deter her.
“Lumos,” she whispered as she stepped into the house and the tip of her wand lit up and illuminated a cone of dusty and scruffy wooden floor before her feet. She raised her wand higher and took a few steps forward, making room for Night to follow her.
“Should we close the door behind us?” she wondered as she raised her wand even further and turned on the spot, making a sweep of the room. They were in what she assumed was a small entrance hall. It was bare except for one empty and broken old cabinet against the far wall. Beams propped up the ceiling and they were covered in cobwebs. Cassie tried not to shiver. She wasn’t too fond of spiders and all that came with them. Another step forward and the floorboards creaked.
“This place is so old,” Cassie marveled. “And a little spooky,” she added with a slight giggle. “But I guess that’s part of the fun.”
There were two doorways going off the room, one right ahead of them and one to the left. Stairs led upwards to their right.
“Where to?” Cassie asked, twirling around again to take in the room. +-word count-+ 253+-credit-+ Born to Die by Lana Del Rey+-notes-+ NShort-ish+-thoughts-+ Cassie is in her element.
